English translation: nursery/weaning pigs

English term or phrase: pig farming
Is there a term for a phase of pig farming that would be considered a "pre-fattening" phase? I'm translating something that refers to what at this point I can only call a pre-fattening phase. I assume it means pigs at a young age, before they are fattened for slaughter (lovely as that sounds). Is there an actual term for this in English? Many thanks in advance.

Selected answer:nursery/weaning pigs
Explanation:
In US English, these are called nursery pigs. (see 1st ref.)
In the UK, they seem to use weaning to refer to this phase. (see 2nd ref.)

Some farms specialize in different phases, some (presumably smaller) do the whole cycle. At the very least, the different phases are normally done in separate buildings. See: http://www.porkcares.org/our-practices/todays-farming/types-...

Notes to answerer
Asker: So could a farm such as this be referred to as a 'weaning farm'? I mean, I would assume the pigs are not transferred to another farm for the other part of their fate

Asker: Thank you, Terry. So very helpful. Cheers. Roni :)
