It will not reflect badly on you if you admit that you don't know something but it definitely will if you make guesses and you are found out later on. I believe that requesting clarification/explanation from the client is far more professional than seemingly knowing everything. (No one can know everything. :) If asking your client is not an option or if they are just as clueless as you are, then you can still add a footnote while not tackling the acronym, such as "'POB'- acronym, full form unknown."
