POB

English language (monolingual) [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / Barge Charter
English term or phrase: POB
I am looking for the long form of this abbreviation. I suspect it to be Person Overboard. Yet, since the ship concerned is a barge (which is usually used for freight transport), I think there may be other full form.

Sentence: "We will send you the POB soon for the said charter period."

Thanks in advance.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Dear Jose, unfortunately there is no more context to it. The previous sentence described the chartering party's refusal to pay. So, the charterer said that it would send POB (again) to support its invoice.

When in doubt - ask your client

Hi Erich, in my experience I have always found it the best solution to ask the client for clarification. It will not reflect badly on you if you admit that you don't know something but it definitely will if you make guesses and you are found out later on. I believe that requesting clarification/explanation from the client is far more professional than seemingly knowing everything. (No one can know everything. :) If asking your client is not an option or if they are just as clueless as you are, then you can still add a footnote while not tackling the acronym, such as "'POB'- acronym, full form unknown."
