English term or phrase: giving a compensation
About Ecclesiastes 11:2
Rather than speculating about such uncertainties (see note on vv. 1–6), it is financially more prudent to explore multiple avenues for making one’s living and investing one’s resources (vv. 2, 6), which could involve ***giving a “portion” or “compensation”*** to several different areas (seven, or even to eight), because such diversification gives protection against unforeseen disaster in one or two of the areas.

What is the sense of "give a compensation to several different areas"?

BECAUSE
"diversification gives protection against unforeseen disaster in one or two of the areas." i.e by spreading your investments into several areas you are also protecting yourself against risks in case one or other of those areas turn bad or sour.

This verse is often interpreted as being about giving charity and as "giving a portion" or share of provisions or wealth to 7 or 8 ...and interpreted as sharing with as many as possible when it is possible for you to do so as there may be risk and uncertainty later and you may be seeking charity yourself
