to flush to deliberately pass one fluid to drive out another Explanation: In this kind of usage, it means specifically to pass one fluid (i.e. gas or liquid) through a pipe, system, etc. in order to drive out another, unwanted one (in this case, flushing with the liquid in order to force out any air that may be left in the pipe). There is no sense of mechanically 'pushing' anything, and this is not the same kind of 'flush' as in a toilet! |
