elements apex locator View Link Explanation: The electronic apex locators are frequently employed in the endodontic treatment of teeth. They allow very simple and quick determination of the root canal length during treatment, without exposing the patient to harmful X-ray radiation. The use of these devices is based on the assumption evolved by Sunada (10) that the electrical resistance between the periodontium and apical foramen is virtually constant, regardless of the age of patients or the shape and type of teeth. Therefore, the measurement of the root canal length is reduced to the measurement of the impedance between the measuring electrode, in the form of a needle placed in the prepared root canal and the large-surface reference electrode leaned against the oral mucous membrane. The measuring electrode is shifted as long as it shows a certain current magnitude, which means that the needle top has reached the apex foramen. http://www.artronic.hr/text_only/products/endo/refer1.htm -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr 1 min (2005-07-30 14:43:07 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- This is even a better one : http://www.brooks.af.mil/dis/DIS54/sec1b.htm |
