to combine the parkway and the garage area as one Explanation: From little context above, I think terrace here means not a patio, but a parkway which leads to the garage area, i.e. this person wants to expand the territory or the space for the garage area. In some parts of US, terrace is being referred to as the grass strip, often planted with shade trees, between a sidewalk and a street, and other names for terrace would be Also called regionally boulevard, boulevard strip, grassplot, neutral ground, parking strip, parkway, terrace, tree belt, tree lawn depending on the locale. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/parking -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 20 mins (2009-10-06 17:18:27 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Forgot to paste the link to the word "terrace" http://www.thefreedictionary.com/terrace |

terrace here may be a large balcony Explanation: A terrace is not always at ground level. its possible that here what is meant is extending an existing terrace (large balcony) over a garage (inclosed parking) connected to the property. A terrace is an outdoor, occupiable extension of a building above ground level. Although its physical characteristics may vary to a great degree, a terrace will generally be larger than a balcony and will have an "open-top" facing the sky. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrace_(building) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2009-10-06 18:10:10 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- here is an example of what this may look like http://www.allan-pritchard.co.nz/Riverlaw-Terrace.html# |
