English term or phrase: with regard to functionality over time
Seller shall provide Buyer, free of charge, with Seller’s configuration support features and configuration support for the Products. Configuration means all the different combinations of the Hardware and the Software making up all the different versions of the Products with regard to functionality over time.

I don't understand what this part refers to: additional functionality added to the versions over time? ensuring performance/availability of all versions ever released?

Thank you!

Selected answer:as new functionality is added
Explanation:
I believe the following phrase:
"making up all the different versions of the Products with regard to functionality over time"

should be read as follows:
"making up all the different versions of the Products produced as new functionality is added [over the course of time]."

Explanation:
I'm not 100% sure but to me it sounds like they are asking for support if there are any problems with the different versions of the product being compatible with each other and ensuring that they will work together not just now but also in the future.

necessary to maintain its usability over time

Explanation:
My take is that this phrase is added to limit the scope of the obligation of Seller. If this phrase is lacking, Seller might be asked by Buyer to configure the Products to suit their new business needs in addition to the minimum support to maintain its functionality.

It may be obvious, but please read "the usability of the Products" in place of "its usability".

I am only guessing, but "the different versions of the Products" may not be referring to any future or past versions. Assume you have two pieces of hardware and two pieces of software. If you combine one piece of hardware and one piece of software, you get four different combinations. "The different versions" may be referring to these four different combinations.

Note also that "with regard to functionality over time" modifies "all the different combinations". That is why I wrote "necessary to maintain ...." I also thought that "combination" means the act of combining. So the sentence can be simplified like: Configuration means any combining and configuring work necessary to maintain its usability over time."

I thought of another possibility, but my answer is getting too long. So I just want to summarize the above interpretation (1) and the second one (2):

1. Seller has to try different combinations of the Hardware and the Software and find the right combination to keep the Products functional over the life time of the contract.

2. Seller has to configure any combination of the Hardware and the Software (that Buyer has chosen) in order to keep the Products functional over the life time of the contract.
