Law/Patents - Law: Contract(s)
English term or phrase: recognized or acknowledged
This is an extract of a Manufature Agreement in teh pharmaceutical field:

"FIRST CLAUSE: to the effects of this Agreement, COMPANY 1 is **acknowledged** in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela as the owner of the products hereinafter referred to as THE PRODUCTS. COMPANY 2 to the effects of this Agreement is **acknowledged / recognized** in the Republic of Colombia as the proprietor of the products and the technology for the manufacture thereof, as well as the manufacturer of the products."

Should I use "recognize" or "acknowledge" in this context? I believe "recognize" would be a better choice, but I'd like to hear the point of view of native speakers. Thaks in advance.

I have translated many of these and that's the way you will read them.

Explanation:
Recognized or acknowledged, or even "identified" or "accepted." All are given for "reconocido" in the Varó/Hughes Diccionario de términos económicos, financieros y comerciales. I´m with you, though; my preference would be for "recognized." Good luck!

disagree  Michael Lyman: The context is to identify- this company is identified as the...which only the term recognized has the definition of identified. Acknowledged is equivalent to recognized on some but not all meanings; identified being one.

-> OK, I'll buy that. Why don't you submit your own answer? I still think either could be used, but "recognized" may well be better--I *did* say that was my preference! Thanks for your comments.
