English term or phrase: .025m contours
From a text (American English) about topographic mapping, DTM etc for road construction.

Does m mean meters or miles? And does .025 really mean 2,5 % of 1 here?
(If meters, I just find the contours (height difference indication) distance of 2,5 cm too small to be noticed individually on any however detailed map?? If miles, 40 m looks better indeed, but I need to be sure.)

the contour of the road

Explanation:
the road is not flat, when you come into some corners the contour is raised to one side to enable a vehicle to travel around the corner at a higher speed.

the measurement is 0.025Meters and this is called the contour or the road camber.
This is the difference between the inside curb and the outside curb of the road in a corner.

If the inside curb is at sea level, the outside curb is 0.025m higher

if you don't alloy for contours you will not be able to go over hills for instance. winding contoured roads through mountains. maybe the 2 foot contour is a mistake. But it would not be unheard of, if the road is 4 - 6 lanes wide. most companies use meters in road building as it is simple to deal with in 10's units. and it doesn't have to be too specific. Internationally, mostly mountains are measured in Feet and so is altitude.

Ken , how do you map terrain for roads with out calculating road contours?

You could need 1million cubic mtrs of fill just to do contours in a 100klm section of road up a mountain. If you didn't calculate this you will be over budget on the job. any how you know best.

disagree  Ken Cox: this is about the topography of the terrain, not the road contours.\\ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_elevation_model
