Hi everyone!
This is from Kate Chopin's the Awakening. Arobin, Edna and Robert are talking. Edna has fallen in love with Robert. In the meantime Arobin has also an interest in Edna. Robert is just back from Mexico, where Arobin has been before. He's at Edna's house and Arobin has arrived with a message from some other woman whom they had an appointment with. The three are talking about Mexican girls in particular...

"Did they [Mexican girls] embroider slippers and tobacco pouches... for you?" asked Edna (to Arobin)
"Oh! my! no! I didn't get so deep in their regard. I fear they made more impression on me than I made on them."
"You were less fortunate than Robert, then."
"I am always less fortunate than Robert. Has he been imparting tender confidences?"
"I've been imposing myself long enough," said Robert, rising and shaking hands with Edna. "Please convey my regards to Mr. Pontellier when you write."
He shook hands with Arobin and went away.

Does "imparting tender confidences" simply mean telling delicate or personal secrets or does it refer to something else? Thanks.
