English term or phrase: personal dates
A writer was approched by old readers saying that his book formed their reading in boyhood and he didnot response to them. Then he commented "One is not anxious to have one's personal dates handled so unkindly"
What are personal dates in this context. Does the sentence mean that he does not want to be reminded of his agr or something? Please help me. I am in total dark. Thank you in advance, all astute translators!

Selected answer:doesn't like to be reminded of his age
Explanation:
Yes, I think you're right!

If someone comments "I'm not over 80, and I used to love reading your books when I was a child!", it reminds the author that they too are now elderly.

It's a bit like me, when I hear a song from my youth, and then someone says "Gosh, that's a really old song!"
