I don't understand what Henry is saying to his daughter.

He says: "Ah! Well, let's not brood about it. A ...........is the best thing."

And she says: "He's bothered. All he thinks about is crime, he sees crime everywhere."

Context: they are talking about Edward. He's a criminologist. Henry didn't like him, because he was kind of dating his daughter. And now she's telling his father that Edward has gone. And Henry is quite happy with this news.
