English term or phrase: Read only memory and random access memory
What is the Urdu word for it?
Amna
ریڈ اونلی میموری اور رینڈم میموری
Explanation:
Though literally we can translate technical terms into Urdu but as a matter of fact in most cases the translation remains unsuccessful to convey the proper message and history relating to those terms and make a mess. On the other hand it may restrict the fluency of the translation and language looks awkward. So, it's always better to use them as it is. The chief purpose of the translation is to convert the message of source language into target language taking a great care that the reader should not be confused and fed up and as a result should not give up reading. To keep him/her reading and getting the message in target language it is always better to present the text in easy to understand style. So, in my experience using the very difficult and notorious words in the translation, like the translating the technical terms into Urdu, never serves the purpose of a true translation

Explanation:
ٰThe terms asked are purely technical words related to computers. The peers of Urdu language have not specified any special words to be used for them and to translate them by word changes the basic meaning of the words which in fact spoil the flow of the text. I suggest one should transliterate such words rather than translate them word by word to achieve perfect understanding of the terms. During translating such technical phrases I often explain this very problem to my clients and they do appreciate it too. I hope to know the opinions of my fellow translators on this issue.

read only memory and random access memory
”مستقل یادداشت” اور ” عارضی یادداشت”

Explanation:
These are two types of memory a computer uses. "Read only Memory" is which exists in BIOS of a system and a user cannot "change or delete" it. While " Random Access Memory" is what a computer uses during a session i.e. RAM consists of those softwares and other details which a user needs again and again when he starts his computer and computer delete all those details and memory when it is shut down. We can also apply ROM and RAM to a human being's LONG TERM and SHORT TERm MEMORY. So, keeping this in mind we can translate those terms as above.

But is there any need to translate such terms???

agree  Qudsia Lone: This sounds good for a simplified and condensed meaning, using transliteration of the terms first.

agree  Basit Ijaz: Agree...what if we also give easiest Urdu equivalents in parenthesis, to satify a reader

-> that's also a good idea. Thanks for a beautiful addition.

agree  Qudsia Lone: This sounds reasonable, and Basit's suggestion also sounds good of proving meanings in parenthesis, or perhaps in an index to prevent clutter. I think "access" of RAM should also be written out so the reader can tell what all the letters stand for.
