As you cannot assume this is of common knowledge outside the USA, it wouldn't be much of use to translate this into "mellan-atlantiska stater" (something right in the middle of the Atlantic?). There doesn't seem to be an official Swedish translation for this.
Why don't you keep the English term and add those states in brackets.
