English term or phrase: machine upstream/downstream
I'm working on a validation plan of an eye drop filling line made by Bausch+Ströbel for a new Allergan site. It shows all the details related to the line and I'm having trouble describing the filling process, in which different kinds of equipment is used, such as supply bins, centrifugal sorters, infeed/transfer belts, infeed scrolls, etc.

But what's really bugging me is that I'm not completely sure about the meaning of upstream and downstream in this context:

"Interface testing is performed on each system taking into account the systems/machines upstream and downstream as appropriate."

Is it related to the input/output of the machines?

Any help would be appreciated!

sistemas y/o equipos previos y posteriores al proceso
Explanation:
