Hola a todos:

Estoy traduciendo un documento sobre la educación que se les ofrece a los estudiantes en una «high school» en los Estados Unidos. Lo que no me queda claro es como podría traducir "comprehensive". La oración dice lo siguiente: «The recommendation should be based upon adequate assessment of the student's performance in the comprehensive high school setting. » Como traducirían esto al español. El internet me da las opciones «preparatoria diversificada» y «preparatoria integrada». ¿Ustedes que opinan?

Creo que este link te puede ser de mucha ayuda para entender exactamente qué es una Comprehensive Highschool y dependiendo del país para que estes traduciendo investigar cuál es el término que aplica si es que hay un equivalente.

Hay muchas formas de decirlo, pero para mí, "comprehensive" aquí se refiere a "setting", por lo que el término completo que buscas traducir debe incluir la palabra "setting". Es el contexto global, integral, general, completo... de la "high school" (que en México sería "preparatoria", muy probablemente, pero tu traducción dependerá del público meta).

De lo contrario no le veo mucho sentido.

No está de más decir que "comprehensive high school" tiene un significado totalmente distinto en el inglés británico (Inglaterra) = "escuela (secundaria) pública", pero como tu texto es de Estados Unidos, no creo que sea el caso aquí.

agree  Charles Davis: Así lo entiendo yo también: no significa "setting of the comprehensive high school", sino "comprehensive setting of the high school". En el Reino Unido "comprehensive high school" no se dice y es contradictoria, por "high school" es un instituto selectivo
