English term or phrase: "church hall"
Holy Jesus! Never expected smoking ban in the Northern Ireland to cause so much hassle. Any ideas? According to my Irish friends, it is any hall used for the functions - e.i. weddings, first communion, etc. that is owned by the Church or is connected with the Church. Something like the communist "kulturny dom" but with Church connection.

Obradná sieň kostola
Explanation:
according to your explanantion I would use "Obradná sieň kostola" or "Obradná sála kostola"

According to your note it is really hard to find suitable word. Maybe you could use "spoločenská sála kostola" or "spoločenská sieň kostola". In some cases there is the room (connected with main hall) called "predsálie obradnej sály" or "predsieň obradnej siene".

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Igor but it's not what it is. It's a room/hall which belongs to the church (but is not necessarily connected to it) where people go for a tea/coffee before the ceremony (e.g. wedding, first communion, funeral, etc.) or after. Some of them even have the bar!! I think it's very culture specific term and will have to use "spolocenska miestnost patriaca miestnemu kostolu" or something similar.
