The modern Greek name for the island – Kerkyra – came from the Nymph Cercyra (Korkika na srpskom), who was the daughter of the river-god Asopus. The god Poseidon fell in love with the beuatiful maiden, abducted her, and lay with her on the island. The fruit of their union was Phaeax, the mythical primogenitor of the Phaeacans who lived on Corfu in antiquity.

Explanation:
Grejvs R, Grčki mitovi:
„...Fajak, rodonačelnik Fajačana, među koje je spadao i sam Odisej, stajao je na pramcu kao pilot broda sa trideset vesala zato što u to vreme nijedan Atinjanin ništa nije znao o plovidbi morem...“

To je jedino što sam mogla pronaći u navedenoj knjizi, zatim u "Rečniku grčke i rimske mitologije" i u knjizi N.A. Kuna "Legende i mitovi stare Grčke" (i u njoj se samo spominje Fajak), a što bi moglo da liči na vašu priču. Takođe, nijedno drugo ime u ovim knjigama nema sličnosti sa "Phaeax".

Sada vidim i predlog kolege Perenčevića, možda je Fajak isto što i Feak u tadašnjoj tzv. zapadnoj varijanti (zagrebačko izdanje iz 1986).

neutral  Pavle Perencevic: Mislim da bi ne samo u hrvatskom vec i u srpskom, po vazecoj pravopisnoj normi, trebalo da bude Feak a ne Fajak s obzirom da Pravopis propisuje Eshil, Ezop i Eneja (tradicionalni izgovor) umesto Ajshil, Ajsop i Ajneja. Radi se o istom diftongu u grckom.

  -> Kao što sam već i objasnila, moj predlog je samo pokušaj da nađem slično ime u knjigama koje imam - i to izgleda bezuspešno. Uopšte ne osporavam vaš predlog, pa ni ovaj komentar, mada volim da nađeno u rečniku proverim i u kontekstu.
