Hortikulture can be defined as a branch of agriculture dealing with intensive cultivation of plants that people use for food, medical needs or because of their aesthetic value. The activities are usually divided according to the type of products and applications. Production of edible plants (utilitarian horticulture) belongs to the fruit and vegetable production. Production of decorative plants (ornamental horticulture) belongs to the floral (flowers and leaf-decorative herbaceous plants) and landscape horticulture (trees, shrubs and ground covers).
