English term or phrase: reliable meter
So, why is all of this so important to working Responsively?
Cadence makes things safe.
In the transition from “follow the plan” to “test and learn,” it can feel scary to say that an idea is safe to try – because the true intent of that statement is that an idea is safe to try until we learn otherwise.
If we have a slow and unpredictable cadence, the chance to learn can seem too far in the future, and make truly safe decisions feel scary.
Cadence preserves time to work.
When teams use a reliable meter for their meetings, you no longer need to interrupt each other during the week.
For knowledge workers, each interruption is extremely costly and diverts them from solving the problem.
A predictable working rhythm gives us clear space for managing the work and lets the rest of the week flow.
Cadence makes process memorable.
When processes are constantly changing, you have to constantly adjust to how the team is working, instead of adjusting to data from the market.
When the structure of your working week IS the process, you’re free to spend more time solving real challenges, not schedule challenges.
