Fully agree with Michael - you won't find it on a modern map - be it Googlemap or Encarta's Atlas

I'll repeat what Dmitry posted above, as it was partly in Russian: lag in Ustvymlag stands for the Russian word for a camp, hence - a labour camp situated near the village of Ust' Vym'.

Actually, I just checked - there is a village called Ust' Vym' (transliteration according to AACR2) in the Perm' region of the Komi autonomous republic. And you are correct - it was a forced labour camp.

And to answer your second question - the labour camps were not necessarily built next to a city or a village. I believe, this is the case here as well, so I wouldn't look for a town/village with this name on the map.

Yes, I came across this word with reference to the forced labour camp and it is written "Ustvymlag" but in Encarta's Atlas there is no such place only Ustmym and UstLyaga.
Which one is the right for the word Ustvymlag I have in a book?

Усть-Ляга exists as a geographical name (I checked Google maps), but can hardly be an alternative for the name of the forced labor camp: Лаг is abbreviated word for Лагерь
