В 60-ые в США был китчевый сериал Бэтман. "Помощник" Бэтмана, по имени Робин, постоянно видоизменял фразу "Holy Cow!", заменяя слово "cow" словами, СВЯЗАННЫМИ С ЧЕМ-ТО, ЧТО ПРОИСХОДИЛ В ТОТ МОМЕНТ. Такой "прием" вошел в язык. В данном случае, мальчик подтрунивает мать, сравнивая громкость ее высмаркивания с громким, гулким гудком, которым сообщает кораблю о близости другого корабля или берега тогда, когда видимость ограничивает густой туман (такой гудок называется - foghorn).
