English term or phrase: Beach marks
Most often there is evidence of a fatigue “eye” or “beach” mark which is the focal point of the break.
The break shows signs of fretting and conventional smooth beach marks in the break area.

In such instances, the crack can usually be traced to its origin by observing the fracture face and noting the beach marks.
