neutral  Flavio Steffen: Não Marlene; ao menos não necessariamente. Por exemplo, o padrão de codificação de microcomputadores é o ASCII, mas em grandes computadores, principalmente d alinha IBM, é o EBCDIC.

Um bom exemplo, é o padrão de codificação de dados em microcomputadores, o ASCII; em grandes computadores, principalmente da linha IBM, é o EBCDIC.
Esses formatos são um tanto diferentes e para que as duas tecnologias possam conversar entre si, é preciso que haja alguma ferramenta para fazer a conversão bidirecional da codificação.

Não contexto a afirmação da Marlene de que se trata de 'midia em geral'; mas trata-se de mídia que já existe.
