They serve as the major interface links between the plans and the land area represented in the plans. Thus the relevance of any plan or survey records depends on the existence and reliability of survey beacons. Beacons are physical evidence on the ground that the surveyor has done some work and are guides to the land users in the determination of the limits of their interest and rights on hand.
