Children between the ages of 7 and 15 attended elementary schools for a period of eight years. The first three years, called integrated teaching (nauczanie poczatkowe), included introductory elements of language arts, arithmetic, natural sciences and arts. All lessons were provided by one teacher assigned to a class. Starting in Grade 4, education was subject-based and provided by individual subject teachers. Upon completion of primary school, students received the Certificate of Completion of Primary School (swiadectwo ukonczenia szkoly podstawowej). All Catholic district school boards may organize the contents of this section to include designations of progress. However, the size and placement of this section may not be changed in any way.
