The equation produced the above graph, verifying the requirement for longer runners at lower engine speeds to produce tuning effects as well as indicating the effect of using various reflective values. Note: Runner length includes the length of the intake passage from the manifold plenum all the way through the head intake port to the intake valve, which include the set-length passage from the manifold gasket to the valve in the cylinder head. The researchers in this example were working with Suzuki motorcycle engine with head ports estimated at 13 centimeters in length. This length had to be subtracted from the total runner length to derive the intake manifold portion of the runner length.
