English term or phrase: allocentric
Šis īpašības vārds raksturo vienu no kategorijām, kādās tūrisma sociologs Plogs (Plog) iedala tūristus atkarībā no viņu uzvedības. Skaidrojums: characterised by or denoting interest centred in other persons rather than in one's self.

Citi kategorijas raksturojošie īpašības vārdi, kuriem arī neizdevās atrast tulkojumu: psychocentric, midcentric.

Explanation:

Man arī šķiet, ka nekāda lielā skāde nevarētu celties, ja šie termini tiktu latviskoti, saglabājot grieķu val. saknes, it īpaši, ja saglabājas līdzība angļu versijai.

This led Plog (1972, 1987, 1991) to develop a tourism-specific scale using the type trait personality theory of tourism. Plog’s original research involved interviewing people who did not travel by plane but earned above average incomes. Plog found these people were not venturesome, were anxious within their daily lives and believed they had little control over their lives (Cooper, Fletcher, Gilbert & Wanhill, 1993). Plog (1974) classified this type as “psychocentric” which is derived from the psyche where ***individuals centre their thoughts on the small problem areas of their lives***. The dimensional opposite was labelled “allocentric” where the root “allo” means ***varied in form and relates to centring on many, varied experiences***. In general, tourists with an allocentric personality type were said to prefer to be independent and have non-organised tourist experiences to little known destinations. In contrast, psychocentric personality types were found to prefer to be part of mass tourism markets and were typified by tourists on highly organised packaged tours. In further refinement, Plog (1987) hypothesised a continuum of tourist personality: from psychocentrics to midcentrics to allocentrics.

Our Module 2A reading examines tourism motivations and explores Plog's 1972 model, which classifies tourists on a scale of psychological types, thus determining the destination that each type of tourist tends to choose. The five categories are:

1. Psychocentric
2. Near-Psychocentric
3. Mid-centric
4. Near-Allocentric
5. Allocentric

Our reading explained the scale as 'psychocentric' is a focus on one’s self, whereas 'allocentric' is a focus on other people. Additionally our text said, "Psychocentrics are characterized as being conservative, inhibited, and more safety conscious when they travel. They usually spend less money and travel to familiar places. Allocentrics are more outgoing, willing to take risks, open to new experiences, and interested in travel to exotic places. He suggests that allocentrics would more likely travel to Africa or Asia, while psychocentrics would prefer travel to nearby destinations and theme parks."

Var lietot šī vārda interpretāciju plašā nozīmē (sk. piemēru atsaucē: "Allocentric individuals tend to be cooperative, interdependent, and to have a stronger need to affiliate with others than idio-centrics.")
