A friend of a friend translated this for my website, to "Lingua est iucundus". Does anyone know if this is correct? I'm a bit worried it might actually mean "language is ridiculous" or something like that!

"Lingua est iucundus" is definitely wrong - from a grammatical point of view. It would have to be: "lingua est iucunda" or 'lingua iucunda est' which means roughly: Language is pleasant.

If you really want a good translation (what for?) you should provide more background information. Latin is a very complex and precise language and, for example, the word 'language' has to be translated in different ways depending on its exact meaning.

Wouldn't it be better to use a slogan most of the readers understand? (A slogan which you yourself understand?)
"iucunda" (feminine) is an adjective and rougly means pleasant, charming, kind
"voluptas" is a noun and means pleasure, enjoyment, joy

Thanks again, Brigitte. The slogan is also used in English (language is fun) and Norwegian (språk er moro), but the Latin translation will be incorporated into the design by my webdesigner. From your explanation, I think "lingua voluptas est" is the best translation.
