１種類の繊維だけで紡績するのではなく、例えば、綿とポリエステル、ウールとアクリル、シルクとウール、綿と麻とレーヨンなどをわた段階で混ぜ合わせて、紡績（糸にすること）。混紡の目的はそれぞれの繊維の長所を組み合わせること。機能優先の時代、長くもてはやされた、混紡にポリエステル65%、綿35%の混紡のドレスシャツ（Yシャツ）がある。強くて、シワになりにくく、乾きやすく（以上ポリエステルの特徴）、肌触りがよく、涼しい（綿の特徴）というわけである。しかし今は、高級ドレスシャツは綿100%で、上記のいわゆる65/35(ロクゴウサンゴウ）のシャツは安物の印象。
