まずこの金曜日というのは過去のことですよね。彼は金曜日に（卒倒・発作）を起こして倒れた。それが元で亡くなった。そういうことを言うのがもっとも自然と思われます。頭に血がのぼった、めちゃめちゃ怒った、ということが「金曜日に」に続くなんて、しっくりきません。そういう表現は普通「何に対して」に続くでしょう。<br>ということを、与えられたこの一文から悟ることができます。ですからこの質問に対する答えとしては「発作を起こした（起こして倒れた）」しか考えられません。

Isn't that a bit of an old expression though? Now that I think about it, I do remember being used in that sense (though rarely), but doesn't that get used in a way like "have a fit of XYZ on Friday" instead of "have a fit on Friday"?

I do agree with you that the best would be for the translator to contact the original author to verify the use, unless the meaning can be deciphered through the context of the conversation that comes right after the use of the phrase.

そりゃね、英和辞典にはどう載っているかは知りませんけど、英英辞書 refers to "have a fit" as below...

Verb 1. have a fit - get very angry and fly into a rage; "The professor combusted when the student didn't know the answer to a very elementary question"; "Spam makes me go ballistic"

1番目のfitが引きつけとか発作を起こすに該当します。
2番目のfit of angerあるいはfit of rageがカッとなるという使い方をしますよね。

I guess I need to learn this way of using "have a fit" as having a seizure of some sort. I definitely encounter "lose temper, rage, etc." but seriously have never encountered it being used as "卒倒する". Where do you guys encounter this use a real world situation (outside of dictionary, etc.)?? Thanks.

“have a fit”の意味としては、「激怒する、かんかんになる、かんかんに怒る、非常に腹を立てる、かっとなる、頭に血がのぼる、狼狽する、ひどく（非常に）興奮する、癇癪を起こす〔= become extremely angry、fly off the handle、lose one’s temper、fly into a rage等々〕」もあるほか、「ショックを受ける、卒倒する、発作を起こす 〔= suffer (or develop) a seizure、faint〕」等の意味もあります。どちらの意味なのかは、この文脈だけでは何とも言えません。
