In un libro per bambini intitolato Ocean,uno dei capitoli, Open Ocean, descrive vari aspetti della vita sopra e sotto il mare (catene alimentari, pesci di superficie e abissali, uccelli ecc.).
Il mio dubbio è se tradurre Oceano aperto o Mare aperto. Ambiente/dominio pelagico mi pare troppo tecnico per dei bambini. Secondo voi
qual'è il termine più utilizzato ma "scientifico"?

Oceano aperto


Explanation:
Se il titolo del capitolo è "Ocean" e se nel resto del testo ci parla sempre di "ocean", allora direi oceano aperto, che va bene per un libro per bambini. Come dici tu, ambiente/dominio pelagico sarebbe troppo tecnico.

Direi così, anche perché stai sul sicuro perché è un termine più globale. L'oceano è sempre un mare, ma un mare non è sempre un oceano...

Pur essendo i risultati per "mare aperto" falsati da una nota marca di tonno, direi che la superiorità è schiacciante!
