The tank pressure naturally tends to increase due to boil-off generated by heat losses and piston effect during tank filling (displaced gas returns partially to tanker). Consequently, to maintain the tank operating pressure and avoid gas losses, a BOG recovery system is installed, including mainly:
• Three (3) existing reciprocating compressors to be revamped which increase the NG pressure up to the value required to allow condensation in the recondenser.
• One (1) recondenser which condenses the boil-off gas by putting it in contact with sub-cooled LNG through a ** packing of stainless steel rings ** where LNG is dispersed to create a direct exchange surface between the liquid and the vapour.
• One (1) new reciprocating compressor to send the BOG as Fuel Gas to the Turbogenerator.
