Nel sito indicato c'è un disegno chiaro. Si tratta di una sorta di serpentina e shanks sono appunto i "giri" degli elementi a forma di serpentina (vari riscontri in rete per serpentina a due giri, a più giri, ecc.. Da qui la mia proposta.
