Buongiorno a tutti.
Mi trovo davanti all'espressione "play above the rim". So che il significato generale è quello di giocare ad un livello superiore rispetto a quello dei compagni di squadra (da alcune ricerche su internet ho trovato che quest'espressione viene principalmente usata nel basket o nel poker...).
Io però l'ho trovata in un altro contesto e vorrei evitare di tradurla letteralmente. Nello specifico, quest'espressione viene riportata da un tipo che viene scaricato dalla sua ragazza che lui considera essere al di sopra di lui, essendo una rinomata dottoressa, mentre lui è solo un infermiere... E così lui dice "Never play above the rim, this is what I've learned today". Ho capito il senso ma vorrei trovare un'espressione equivalente in italiano, non letterale.
A qualcuno di voi viene in mente qualcosa?
