Anche il solo termine taffy ha una traduzione migliore del semplice caramella?

Non chiedetemi come ho fatto ;) ma ho trovato una pagina di Wikipedia dove il problema veniva risolto così, e mi è sembrata una ottima idea...

Il termine si trova all'inizio della trama dell'episodio "La notte dei negletti"

agree  VMeneghin: Si', manterrei anch'io il nome toffee, anche perche' l'equivalente italiano (non proprio la stessa cosa) e' la caramella mou, che non suona benissimo nella frase e che rischia di annullare l'ambientazione americana el testo.

agree  Giuseppe Bellone: Credo sia meglio mantenere il termine americano dato che sono quelle in particolare, per via dell'aneddoto.Nella traduzione non si può certo andare a spiegare il perché e il percome, se non è il caso.

Nonostante il loro nome, non sono affatto salate (ovviamente, altrimenti sarebbero disgustose), è solo il loro nome che contiene "sale" grazie all'aneddoto.

Metterei solo caramella mou oppure toffee, le uniche due rese comprensibili per un pubblico italiano

neutral  VMeneghin: Le Salt Water Taffy contengono sale, anche se non quello dell'oceano Atlantico, e comunque non sono proprio l'equivalente della caramella mou, che e' fatta con il latte; anche la consistenza e' diversa.

I Saltwater Taffy sono delle caramelle tipiche di Atlantic City; il nome sembra derivare dal fatto che durante un allagamento il negozio del povero David Bradley fu invaso dall'acqua dell'Oceano Atlantico e così nacquero le "taffy acqua salata."

La Taffy dell'acqua salata è composto di zucchero, amido di mais, sciroppo di mais, glicerina, acqua, colore burro, sale, aroma, e il cibo. Come aromatizzante può venir aggiunto vaniglia, limone, acero, o estratti di menta ma contrariamente al nome non contiene acqua salata di mare .
