English term or phrase: calabrese vs. (sprouting) broccoli
You would not be blamed for getting confused about broccoli and calabrese. Calabrese is
the large-headed, greenish-blue vegetable with chunky stems that is commonly available in the supermarkets, but confusingly labelled as broccoli. Yet what most gardeners refer to when talking about broccoli is the much less commonly seen purple or white sprouting broccoli that has much smaller florets.

Sto impazzendo su questa divisione (siamo nel Regno Unito) che non coincide con quella italiana.... non riesco a capire se con "sprouting broccoli" si intendano le cime di rapa, il broccolo ramoso, o ancora solo questa varietà definita “broccoli da ricacci“ (http://www.bejoitalia.it/it/prodotti/assortimento/vegetable....

Il calabrese dovrebbe invece essere il cavolo broccolo diciamo "classico", quello simile al cavolfiore (che qualche sito definisce "a testa", contrapposto a quello "ramoso“).

Vivendo in Gran Bretagna ti posso confermare che gli 'sprouting broccoli' che trovi da comprare sono esattamente questa varietà violacea indicata nel link, anche se il nome esatto con cui sono venduti è 'purple sprouting broccoli' essendocene probabilmente altre varietà (come quella bianca menzionata nel testo). Hanno gambi molto più sottili e sono venduti a fascio dato che le cime sono molto piccole.

Explanation:
una ipotesi potrebbe essere questa.
O anche il cavolo-broccolo riccio a getto, che però non so se sia presente fuori della zona di Napoli: si tratta in effetti dei famosi "friarielli" che a Napoli si usano classicamente spadellati con la salsiccia. Da non confondere con i friggitelli che sono invece peperoni.
Personalmente, io andrei con il cavolo spigarello.

gli altrimenti chiamerei broccoletti ma se si riferisce solo a quel tipo viola praticamente a Roma non gli ho mai visti. Qui c'è il romanesco e i siciliani
