Onions should be grown in a sunny, well-drained soil. They are usually grown from ***sets***, which are immature onions, but they can also be grown from seed.

Shallots grow in well-drained soil in full sun. They are usually planted as small bulbs or ***sets*** in early spring and harvested from mid to late summer.

Mi serve un esperto/a....
Come dice il testo, si tratta di piccoli bulbi immaturi.

IATE le definisce "cipolle da piantare" o "Cipolle da seme"... però non trovo molti riscontri (e in ambito botanico ho già trovato un paio di errori).

Su diversi siti di vendita ho trovato "bulbilli", che però nel testo vengono chiamati "bulbils", in riferimento ad altri tipi di cipolle

Walking onions, also known as Egyptian onions or tree onions (Allium cepa Proliferum Group), are a hardy perennial member of the onion family that produce small onion bulbils above ground in the tips of the plants.

mi correggo dopo aver trovato questa precisazione:
Sono ancora da ricordare alcune colture specializzate in cui le cipolle serbevoli non si ottengono direttamente da seme, ma da bulbi immaturi. Questi si
ottengono in aiuole-vivaio, dove le piantine volutamente troppo fitte non
trovano nè l'umidità sufficiente né lo spazio necessario per completare lo sviluppo.

I bulbilli sono un tipo di bulbi (più piccoli), mentre qui sembra che la semina sia fatta con bulbi immaturi (o bulbilli immaturi)
