English term or phrase: A.M. and P.M.
I know that for a.m. and p.m. पूर्वान्ह और अपरान्ह is used while translating but when there is a voice help on mobile one cannot ask "(1.30 बजे यानी) पूर्वान्ह या अपरान्ह के?". I think the common man will unable to understand it. Therefore the assistant had to say "सुबह के, दोपहर के, शाम के या रात के?" which is difficult to write in target language. As a translator what you will prefer?

Hindi translation:a.m.रात/सुबह p.m.दोपहर/शाम/रात
Explanation:
a.m. and p.m. समयकाल समझाने के लिए इस्तमाल किया जाता है और अंग्रेजी में यह बहुत आसान तरीका है। भारतीय भाषाओं में इन्हें समझाने के लिए समयकालों का नाम लिखना आवश्यक है। पूर्वान्ह या अपरान्ह ही लिखा जाता है पर यह बहुत ही श्लिष्ट भाषा है । इसलिए हम इसतरह लिखते हैं:
5 a.m. सुबह 5
11.30 a.m. सुबह 11.30
2 p.m. दोपहर 2
5 p.m. शाम 5
8 p.m. रात 8
1a.m. रात 1

यह बताया जा सकता है कि अंग्रेजी की तुलना में यह जटिल है पर हम हमेशा बोलचाल की भाषा में इसका इस्तमाल करते हैं। जैसे : सुबह 10 बजे मिलिए या शाम 6 बजे हम जाएंगे । अनुवाद में इसका इस्तमाल मैं करता हूँ और मुझे बिश्वास है कि दुसरों से सम्पर्क करने का यह सबसे आसान तरीका है।

Yes, it is a problem to write in SMS because mobile is a new concept. Then we have to create something new. I can suggest an option. we can use Din (दिन) and Raat(रात) to overcome the problem.
e.g. 10 A.M.= दिन 10
10 P.M.=रात 10
Similarly 2 A.M.= रात 2
2 P.M.= दिन 2
At least it is clear that Hindi cannot obey the western time division. It may be sometimes confusing. So when we say सोमवार के रात 3.30 बजे उठना है क्यों कि सुबह हमें जाना है- then we have to keepin mind that the very morning is also monday. However, युगों के साथ क़दम मिलाकर हमें जो चलना है !!

Explanation:
Since you have only two option, Poorvahn & Aparahn is the best, but for making it simple, i suggest you Dopahar Se Pahale & Dopahar Baad.

a.m. and p.m.
subah aur shaam

Explanation:
The requirement shoul be constrained within two words for voicing. Thus, the dupahar can be ignored by opting shaam for dupahar and shaam. Otherwise AM PM will be the best option.

disagree  Ramesh Kulandaivel: shub aur shaam can be considered to be a collocial one.. not the exact equivalent of AM and PM
