I read in some forum (2nd link here) some people seem to think it has something to do with the number of doors, but I think that's an "Israeli misconception". One of the writers there says:

תכל'ס מדובר על תצורת סדאן, בארץ בד"כ מתבלבלים בין הפאסטבק(כמו המוסטנג למשל) לנוצ'בק.
