The one-time fall jump was in the 'price level' which, in real terms is small, but could be large in % terms. On Bank balances you mentioned we get 0.1% interest. If they increase it to 0.2%, the increase is miniscule but 100% jump from the previous rate.

A jump is a relative notion: relative to what the marginal rate of change is for a given magnitude. A basis point, for instance, is usually a marginal change, but a 1 or 2 percent drop in interest rates or the price level could be huge (esp. in terms of transmitted effects). In any case, a jump is a jump, not a mere fall. We translate what's before us, without assuming what's not there to be assumed (from the asker's text it is nowhere implied or stated how big that fall is in quantitative terms and there's no talk of financial crisis either). Now, regarding "miniscule" changes to the factors mentioned in (e) and (f): as to the fall of interest rates this, for the UK, was in the area of just under 5% since 2008. CPI (inflation rate which is indicative of the overall price level) dropped from 4.8% in 2011 to about 2.8% in the following year. Both drops are huge in terms of marginal rate and transmitted effect, hardly ticks. So, if "αλματώδης" sounds too much, so be it, but the term "άλμα" has to be in there somewhere. "Μεγάλη πτώση" is rather a paraphrase for it, not a translation, and merely "πτώση" does not translate "jump" either.

I can understand if the one-time jump was in the 'real money demand' (which is huge, daily). But my understanding, from the text, is that the 'one-time jump' was *within* factors (e) and (f) which are miniscule in financial circles.
That is:- a small change in Interest rate or a small change in the price level of money, which cannot be 'αλματώδη', and far from it, can bring a hell of a difference in money demands. On the Money markets, the biggest markets in the World, a 'tick' on the price provides a huge up or down movement in demand. A 'jump' might be just 2/3/4 ticks, which can hardly be an ' άλμα', and, I think, is far fetched. Since you agree and said, '"άλμα" έχει φυσικά τη σημασία της πτώσης....' I would, therefore, personally use *'Μια και μοναδική πτώση* or even, *'Μια και μοναδική ΜΕΓΑΛΗ πτώση'*

Άλλο όμως το άλμα κι άλλο η πτώση. Η λέξη "άλμα" έχει φυσικά τη σημασία της πτώσης (ή της ανόδου, κλπ. κατά περίστασιν), αλλά στην χρήση της σημαίνει παράλληλα τη διάσχιση απόστασης που υπερβαίνει την οριακή μεταβολή, δηλαδή σημαντικής απόστασης (πάνω, κάτω ή οριζοντίως). Το "σημαντική" εδώ είναι ασαφής έννοια, σύμφωνοι, αλλά δεν παύουμε να έχουμε διαισθητικά το μέτρο του τί εννοούμε όταν λέμε ότι κάτι έκανε άλμα. Αν πούμε "πτώση", αυτή η χροιά χάνεται. Άρα προτείνω "άλμα προς τα κάτω" ή "αλματώδη πτώση".

Συμφωνώ με τον *rokotas*. Λέγει ότι είναι "...falls in a one-time jump." Επομένως είναι 'πτώση' (πήδημα ή πάνω ή κάτω!!). Γιατί δεν το βάζεις

Συμφωνώ με την πρόταση του Andras Mohay για την απόδοση του jump ως άλμα. Άλμα μπορείς να έχεις προς τα πάνω ή προς τα κάτω (ή και οριζοντίως).
