English term or phrase: principal
Hi! I am translating a tax and interest statement for a mortgage and the term principal is mentioned in serveral context and I am not sure what the German equivalent could be.

-outstanding mortgage principal
-principal applied (preceded by a dollar amount)

And finally in a whole sentence:

The amount below reflects the amount outstanding under the mortgage including principal, interest, penalties, lates charges advances, any other charges related to the loan.

I found Hypothekenbetrag als principal mortgage und als Erklärung im Englichen dafür:
A loan’s actual balance, excluding the interest owed for borrowing, is called the principal. This is the original amount borrowed from the lender that needs to be repaid, in addition to all the other costs of borrowing that amount (interest, insurance, and taxes). The principal is paid monthly over the term of the mortgage.

Would principal alone mean Hypothekenbetrag und "principal applied" "Tilgungssumme"?

If someone could confirm that or correct me that would be really great. Thank you in advance.

Explanation:
... der Hypothek, also der eigentliche Darlehensbetrag ohne Zinsen und sonstige Kosten/Belastungen.

In dem Beispiel könnte man "outstanding mortgage principal" als "geschuldeter Hypothekenbetrag" oder "geschuldeter Darlehensbetrag" übersetzen. "Principal applied" dürfte dem (für steuerliche Zwecke) angerechneten/berücksichtigten Tilgungsbetrag entsprechen.

Outstanding ist der offene Rückzahlungsbetrag und kann neben Kapital auch Zinsen und Gebühren enthalten.
In diesem Fall würde ich
- ausstehendes Hypothekenkapital
- getilgtes Kapital
verwenden (nehme an in der 2. Zeile wird der gesamte oder für das Jahr aufgelaufene getilgte Betrag aufgeführt). Ein Teil der Rückzahlungen ging sicher auch auf Zinsen und ggf. Gebühren...
