English term or phrase: glossiness
A client of mine who is preparing to give a presentation has just called me to ask how he would refer to this term in German.
His presentation is about a new CAD tool for the 3D visualisation of glass material. In the same section of the CAD programme there is a method which influences the "shininess" of an object and also a method which influences the "glossiness". He knows what these two methods do but needs to be able to refer to them. Obviously he can't use the term "Glanz" for both.
Any suggestions? Both examples look "shiny" to me. :-(

neutral  Marcus Geibel: this is, on the one hand, the correct translstion of "glossiness" - but on the other lacks the object, s.th. like "Hochglanz-Broschüre", "(Hoch)Glanzpapier" etc.

as far as I can say, both terms are used very often to mean the same. But shininess (possibly luminosity) seems to refer to rays/reflecting light whereas gloss(iness) seems to depend more on the material (here the glass itself)

Der Glanz also wie ein Objekt erscheint (die Charakteristik des Objekts) im Unterschied zur Blassheit. War mein Kommentar.

Sollte heißen: Der Glanz hat mit der Beschaffenheit des Objekts zu tun.Man spricht dann entweder von Glanz oder Glanzlosigkeit (erscheint matt, es gibt den Ausdruck Mattglas).
