Um es für Kollegin Holm etwas vereinfacht auszulegen – vielleicht hilft es ihr, den Satz zu verstehen:

Man hat es nicht bemerkt (wahrgenommen) / man hat es ‚verschlafen’, was sich in diesen Gebieten zusammenbraute / wohin die Entwicklung führte.

Hermann, das geht zuerst an Dich: Es wäre viel besser, ausgehend vom Inhalt der Frage anzugeben, warum Maureen falsch liegt. Kommentare wie "die tickt nicht ganz richtig" sind da völlig fehl am Platz. Bitte um Mäßigung, auch wenn es Gründe geben mag, weshalb Du völlig anderer Meinung als Maureen bist.

Maureen, Deine entschiedenen "disagrees" an allen möglichen Stellen solltest Du mit einem eigenen Vorschlag unterstützen, ansonsten sind sie wertlos (auch wenn Du sie kommentiert hast). Nicoles Lösung kommt nach meinem Empfinden dem Gemeinten am nächsten und ist eine Kollokation, die so im Dt. verwendet wird (was auf Alexanders Vorschlag nicht zutrifft).

Als Kompromiss wäre vielleicht auch die Beibehaltung des Latinismus möglich: \"historische Imagination\" oder \"historisches Imaginationsvermögen\".

agree  Norbert Hermann: danke Steffen - tut mir auch leid! Ich dachte hier an den Sinnzusammenhang und ein einzelnes Wort sollte da nicht ins Gewicht fallen. Bei unqualifizierten 'disagrees' brennt schon mal die Sicherung durch.
