Vielleicht liege ich ja total falsch, aber meiner Ansicht nach sprechen wir hier von einer Frau und nicht einem Mann (Witwentröster, etc.). Ich habe Gefährtin gewählt, weil es sich um einen alten Text handelt. Noch moeglich waere Lebensgefährtin, klingt mir jedoch zu modern, oder einfach Freundin, aber wenn aus dem Zusammenhang hervorgeht, dass die beiden zusammenleben, gemeinsam verreisen, etc. passt Gefährtin vielleicht am besten.

neutral  Martina Keskintepe: Das war auch mein erster Gedanke, aber müßte es nicht dann "widowed-companion" heißen? Ich glaube hier kommt es wirklich auf den Zusammenhang an.

  -> widowed companion koennte sowohl maennlich als auch weiblich sein, daher meiner Ansicht nach die Wortwahl widow-companion, um anzuzeigen, dass es sich um eine Frau handelt.

da man im 18. Jht. offiziell nicht zusammenlebte, holte man sich eine Gesellschafterin ins Haus. Eine Gesellschafterin war zu dieser Zeit eine Art anerkannter Beruf. Man hatte Gesellschafterinnen fuer aeltere Damen oder fuer junge Maedchen.
