control for (a variable) Explanation: This is the statistical concept of controlling for a variable that might be influencing your results - see e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controlling_for_a_variable. It doesn't mean that you have to investigate the different possible influences (which makes me doubt whether Katja's suggestion is correct) - you simply have to rule out the possibility that other "relevant bond characteristics" are influencing your results. I'm familiar with this mainly from the field of psychological testing - for example, you "control for age" or "control for gender" by designing your test in such a way as to exclude the possibility that the results you get are influenced by the age or gender of your subjects - that is a completely different thing from investigating the influence of age or gender on the issue under investigation. |
