"I ... do hereby certify that the foregoing is a correct copy of the original decree rendered by the Judge of the Circuit Court in the above stated cause, ***which said decree if on file*** and enrolled in my office and the costs have been paid."

I don't understand this part of the sentence. It begins like a relative clause but I can't see what it refers to, and after "if on file" there seems to be something missing - at least to me.

Ich denke, es handelt sich hier um einen Tippfehler. Anstatt "if" müsste es wohl heißen: "is".

Dann würde der Satz cum grano salis in etwa so lauten:

"Ich bescheinige hiermit, dass Vorstehendes eine korrekte Kopie des vom Richter des Bezirksgerichts in oben erwähnter Angelegenheit erlassenen Urteils ist, welches in meinem Büro gespeichert und eingetragen ist und die Kosten dafür sind bezahlt."

Das mit den Kosten scheint mir merkwürdig. Wer ist der Bescheinigende? Ein Registerbeamter?

Wie immer dem sei: Ich hoffe, das hilft dir weiter.

Statt "korrekte Kopie" sagt man im Übersetzer-Juristenjargon normalerweise "wahrheitsgetreue Abschrift". Letzteres klingt besser, ist aber das Gleiche.

Asker: Ja, das hilft weiter. Dieses Juristenenglisch ist so umständlich und verdreht, da hab ich sogar hinter einem Tippfehler eine Bedeutung gesucht. Verfasst hat das ein Registerbeamter, der sich tatsächlich "Register" anstatt "Registrar" schreibt. Hatte wohl einen schlechten Tag.

neutral  Thomas Pfann: Genau, statt „which said decree if on file“ müsste es heißen „which is on file“. Aber wirklich „gespeichert“? Nicht eher „hinterlegt“ oder „verwahrt“ oder so?

  -> Unrecht hast du nicht. Nur: Ich weiß nicht, in welcher Form Scheidungsurteile aufbewahrt werden. Ich nehme an, dass sie gespeichert werden, vielleicht werden sie (auch) physisch verwahrt - wäre allerdings wenig zeitgemäß. Ich denke, "speichern" trifft es.
