neutral  Daryo: all that is correct, but where is "belt span" gone? Not quite "belt span" = the length of the belt between the two contact points with the rotating parts. // OTOH you do have a valid point there!

"belt span" HERE is not the distance between two contact points, but the portion of the belt that is "free floating" - not touching any rotating part and free to vibrate as would any string attached to some anchoring points at both extremities.
