Actually I said the same thing and I agree with Mr. Akmali 100%. I guess all depends on who is using the sentence. If academic it is to wear and/or placing the turban on ones head.

Dear Simon,

You may use different verbs in this case for "to put on a turban":
دستار به سر نهادن
دستار بر سر نهادن
and more informal and frequently used ones:
دستار بستن
دستار پوشیدن
"to be wearing a turban" : دستار به سر داشتن
دستار پوشیدن

yes it is DOUR/DOWR which means "round"

They are pronounced as.
Dowr band, and the other one Dowl band.

دوربند and دولبند are actually the same thing, but sounding different due to area accents. دور on the other hand in Persian means around. Round is written as گـرد or the globe like. so the دوربند means something that is closed or applied around something. in this case around the head. بند to knot or to close.

Turbans are supposed to be symbolizing the religious connection to the Holy prophet of Islam, and the Safavid Dynasty, tried their best in reigniting this kinship with that holy family. A good try but somehow it went the undesired direction than thought when applied. Any ways, Safavid turbans were almost 95% the same type and shape of the Turbans you see now in Iran. A head gear which can be used to signal your Family Roots ( black or Green) or just an academic root ( white) or colorful ones which you find in Baluchistan and other tribal areas a head gear to protect from desert sand storms and serve as a cover at night or a table when you eat and of course your tribal statues according to its colors and jewels, if any used. Hope this was informational.

it was designed to distinguish between the classes, especially of the Religious, Royal and the regular people in a society. Just like the Japanese society in 16 century, every society had a way of clearing classes from each other. In England, and whole Europe....
But the link mentioned above has nothing to do with Safavid dynasty in anyway, except which I doubt very much in a derogatory way
