Confining animals to an area of grazing land to be grazed in a relatively short period of time, where the paddock size is varied to allow access to a specific land. Strip grazing may or may not be a form of rotational stocking, depending on whether or not specific paddocks are utilised for recurring periods of grazing and rest.

انواع چرا

1. چرای گسترده یا آزاد: به دو نوع نوع گسترده نسبی و مطلق تقسیم می گردد که در نوع اول گله در کل طول سال در کل مرتع چرا می کند ولی در حالت دوم قسمتی از مرتع برای جمع آوری غذای زمستانی حفظ می گردد.

2. چرای انتقالی یا بسته: در این روش مرتع به وسیله حصار به قطعات مختلفی تقسیم می گردد و گوسفندان در هر ایامی از سال در قسمتی از مرتع به سر می برند. از تفاوت هایی که این روش با روش گسترده دارد این است که به علت بسته بودن گیاهان نا مطبوع هم به مصرف گوسفند میرسد.

3. چرای مخلوط : گاهی اوقاط و بر حسب شرایط می توان حیوان دیگری را در چرای گوسفند وارد ساخت، از انواع چرای مخلوط می توان چرای گوسفند و گاو،میش و بره نام برد.
